Protects and soothes the skin
Blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) are good for the skin as they are rich in vitamins and minerals that protect and rejuvenate, helping to repair sun damage and give you a gorgeous glow.
They are high in vitamins A, C, and E, which are antioxidants that are said to help to protect the skin from damage and also help to promote cell repair and growth. They are also an excellent source of essential fatty acids, which help to regulate moisture, while their high tannin content gives them antiseptic qualities.
We buy ours from a farm in Dorset, where they are handpicked daily from June to September and whisked straight to our factory, where they are mulched into our products. However, as the UK season is so short, it does mean we have to freeze what we think we'll need outside of harvesting time, so the berries are fast-frozen as soon as they are freshly picked. We know that blueberries, unlike other fresh ingredients, still perform the same when frozen: they retain their colour, nutrients and their scrumptious plumpness. We do this because we are trying to reduce the need where we can to fly soft fruit in, allowing us to support a local business year round while also giving us the chance to be sure of the growing conditions, and know that they will reach us ripe and in perfect condition.
